Where Have All Our Daughters Gone

Mitchell Bellison always had an agenda. As a college student at the University of Florida, he didn't let the fact he lived in a trailer deter him from getting what he wanted. Now, with intelligence and looks, he cunningly charms his way into the life--and arms--of unsuspecting Kate Canterfield. Mitchell plays his part to perfection, but it isn't long after their marriage that Kate begins to see his facade crumble and the abuse begins. Still, due to her upbringing, Kate feels obliged to do her best and fix what's wrong, no questions asked. With money and power as an attorney, Mitchell eventually decides he no longer needs Kate in his life and embarks upon a journey of self-satisfaction. Kate thinks it is enough she escaped an abusive marriage, but she can never totally break free of his control now that they share three daughters.

Where Have All Our Daughters Gone, a story of contrasts from love and compassion to narcissistic revenge and vengeance, is set against a backdrop of the wealth and privilege of Naples, Florida to the quiet charm of the Southern Low Country of South Carolina. Kate's story is one of compassion, resilience, and survival against the odds.

         Green Grass & High Times

Born in Mississippi during the tumultuous Civil Rights era, four brothers navigate their way to Naples, Florida where they come-of-age. Landon, Hollis, Boyd, and Attie are known to all to be competitive and aggressive with each other, but they will always have their brothers' backs in times of trouble. From the home of 'Ole Miss and the cotton fields of Oxford to the sandy shores of Naples when it was still a sleepy town and outpost for drug runners, Green Grass & High Times will take you on a spellbinding journey. With its local color and nostalgic views that touch on the innocence of youth, the temptations of adolescence, and the trials of maturity, this is a novel of Southern fiction at its best,

You will be intrigued with a touch of mystery, dark humor and historical drama as each page opens to a new escapade in the lives of these four boys/men, and how the women in their lives continually mold, manipulate, and master them.

                   Bad Moon Rising

The character of Tess Collingsworth returns from the novel, Green Grass & High Times. Now, in 2018, she is doing her best to handle life on her own without Boyd or their daughter, and settles in a rambling antebellum house overlooking the river in Beaufort, South Carolina. When four of her friends, Tabatha, Deidre, Connie, and Leslie converge to allegedly help her with the loneliness, all mayhem breaks out in the sleepy, coastal town. The drastically different personalities clash as these women come to terms with middle-age, and the fact that desires and selfish impulses often drive many to places they would never normally tread.

Again, you will find recurring themes of the author, as she uses local color, dark humor, and other elements common to Southern Gothic literature to create her characters. Set to debut in late 2024.

About the Author

Julie was born in Ohio, but has called Florida, South Carolina and, even short time in England, home. She has always been passionate about writing to express her thoughts and feelings, but also as a means to help others.

With three daughters, Julie now lives in the Low Country of South Carolina with her youngest one along with their menagerie of animals.  When she's not cooking, gardening, reading novels, or watching romantic comedies, she is a history professor at the University of South Carolina, Beaufort.

Julie's books are contemporary Southern Fiction with underlying themes of how the past overshadows the present - Southern Gothic.  She builds on this premise with themes of family relationships, religion, traditions, coming-of-age, alienation, addictions, physical and mental abuse,  as well as dark humor.

She is presently working on her third novel, Bad Moon Rising, which she plans to release in late 2024.
